My love affair

And I'm not talking about my undying love to my dearest husband...Am talking about my other love affair - with food that's it..

The first time i ate this scrumptious dish, it was around 2001. It was prepared by the (then) Ambassador of Malaysia in Paris. It was her  specialty. Everytime there's a gathering in the embassy, this is one of the food that I would find first. And she knew it since I told her how i fell in love with her curry.

Now, go run to the nearest asian shop near you and grab all the ingredients (or if you are lazy like me) just grab the readymade green curry paste and start cooking peeps...this is one of my top on the list must do dishes if i have guest for dinner

While I'm digesting my lunch and after slavering for few hours in the kitchen, here I am, my 2 feets up and cafe latte on the other hand (yeap, I'm typing this with one hand only)

All have been prepared, waiting eagerly to be eaten and knowing that my tonight dinner tucked safely in the fridge waiting to be bake.. House clean and kids quietly playing SimCity next to me..that is what I called being bless..

And the battle begin

The question is, WHO will get the last bite of this delicious chocolate cake?

Even for Karim, who is not a chocolate cake lover have to admit that this cake are good, and he even said that this is the lightest choc. cake he ever had beside brownies. It is true, most of the chocolate cakes that I've made before or even the shop bought are quite heavy. 

The marriage of the kumquat with the chocolate sauce bring the citrusy twist to this cake. The mixture of dark, intense and fresh at the same time. I've always known that orange and chocolate are a great duo, but never tried it myself until today. Having said that, I never tried eating the kumquat itself or how to eat it.  I have to googled the word kumquat and found few interesting sites how to candied the kumquat of how to eat it..funny, if Louisa didn't insisted to buy it, we will never have this delicious tea break..

Jemer's Chocolate Cake

There goes my diet :P

Ever since Alison told me that she's been making Pad Thai, i've been trying to convince myself, if she can do it, so do I - pathetic isn't it?

Yesterday, arms with my shoping list and the kids too..we rummage through the supermarket looking for our ingredients needed for the Pad Thai recipe, i got everything except fresh bean sprout..so no Pad Thai for dinner last night. When I told Karim about the beansprout, he told me, we still can eat it without it isn't it? But i said, no pad thai without beansprout, just like eating french fries without fries..he got the message..

Again today, packed the kids in the car (yeah, just like my shopping too except they can walk..LOL), the hunt of the bean sprout begin, not before going to Rawnaq (my fav. cheap plates and other thing shop). Got all the stuff for Louisa and few squarish plates for me and off to Landmark..YAY the beansprouts are here...

Back home, the war begin in the kitchen..the result are here..basically it's almost the same as Malaysian Fried Noodle. I am very happy with the my first time Pad Thai (here with my new serving plate)

Prawn Pad Thai Recipe

When Louisa playing around in the kitchen

I love it when she decided to "play" around in the kitchen, but before starting and going out to buy the ingredients, i asked her about 20 times, will she eat  the food othat she will cook? And her answer, of course mama, i will...

Since yesterday, she walking around the house with this cooking magazine that I subscribed, showing to her papa what she wanted to cook for us today. I'm so glad that she did show some interest in cooking, but cleaning up wise, there's lot more to do!

She was busy chopping, cutting and screaming in the kitchen when she badly manouvred the spatula with the hot oil..but of course, i told her, this is nothing and she will got more later on..

 
The Recipe : Stir-fried Chicken Noodle a la Louisa 

Weekend Prolonger...

It's quite rare that we had 4 days weekend since we arrived here in Qatar and the only way we can have, is that Karim will have to take day off and that's what he did to the kids joy and me too..And to celebrate this prolonged holiday, there is no other proper way than going to the beach from 9 am till 3 pm..that's the longest we ever stayed..

It's was so windy and we had to fight with the wind to put up our little tent..the kids obviouly don't see the problem as they happily frolicking in the freezing water. Once our tent are up, Karim heading to the sea and trying his luck with the fishing rod but of course, nothing came up.

Had some chops and grilled veges for lunch, while Karim had some nap, the kids and I went for a walk in the water..unfortunately Rayan fell down and seems very upset about it as he got few scratch and it's bleeding..while Louisa and I enjoying the cool water..

When papa wide awake, the kids managed to drag him in the water and we went for hunting..of what? Everything? And to our delight, we saw few crabs, there's a particular crab that quite fierce, looks like it wanted to have fight with us..with his claws he tried to scared us away but karim got other idea..taking out his plier and try to catch the poor crab..what a show this little fellow..And the delight didn't stop there! We found 2 cuttlefishs (about the size of 20 cm) roaming around not far from our feet and I managed to grab one but it was quite slimy and it released the ink that make me quite surprise.

Update : like i said it before..it's damn pain and i can't even chew anything...:(

Picnicking a la Malaysian...

It's been a nice day for picnicking and we decided that we should go outside and enjoy it while it last. Direction to the Aspire Park. Karim dropped me and the kids there and zoom off to the mosque near by. While waiting for papa to finish his friday prayer, the kids had a jolly good time running, climbing and err fighting for a few broken branches and I'm trying very hard to protect myself from the wind - well it's not that very windy, but when you have running nose and bad sinus, that won't help much

To keep it true to the picnicking a la Malaysian, Nasi Lemak came through my mind and everybody agreed with my choice of food, well they can't really aren't they? Louisa and Rayan keep on asking when is papa coming over cos they starting to get hungry, silly me, shud have bring the cool box with me but since it's too heavy i told Karim that he can bring it later once the he's done in the mosque.

I almost fell asleep when Karim came around, and the kids jumping with joy seeing the...cool box! Yay foods are here..and papa too...LOL

In all, we had a great afternoon, nice nap after the heavy lunch but my sinus getting worse..we can't have it all isn't it?
